Exhibition entitled “Charcoal Paintings” by Leon Michail curated by art historian, Louisa Karapidaki (May 11 - June 10, 2017)

Leon Michail presents, for his second solo exhibition, charcoal, chalk, and soft pastel diptychs and triptychs on paper. Their composition follows the rationale of an intense script characterized by rich tonal gradations between white and black. At the same time, in direct juxtaposition, straight or curved lines are defined, cutting and dividing the pictorial forms, resulting in the seclusion of certain fields.

According to the curator, Louisa Karapidaki: "...Two antagonistic thematic axes traverse the exhibition's works: faces disperse while conversing / divided sites recalling their primordial components."

Leon Michail was born in Athens, in 1979. From 1998 to 2004 he studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, under the instruction of Professor Triantafyllos Patraskidis. He obtained his Master's Degree in "Theory and Practice of Language and Arts" from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, where he studied from 2005 to 2007. In 2010 he presented a solo exhibition at "Ekfrasi-Yianna Grammatopoulou Gallery" and he has since participated in many group exhibitions.

The exhibition is being held by the Hellenic American Union and the Hellenic American College (HAEC) in cooperation with Hellenic American University (Nashua, NH, USA).
