Cover of the book entitled "The State in the Self-regulating World Order" by George C. BitrosDr. George C. Bitros, Professor Emeritus of Political Economy at the Athens University of Economics and Business, will present his recently published work on The State in the Self-regulating World Order at the Hellenic American Union Theater, on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at 19:00.

As the Publisher’s note to the book points out, economic crises after World War II were usually explained in large part as a failure of the markets. The role of the markets, it was argued, should thus be contained to prevent further crises. This, in turn, led to a vastly enlarged state sector and the catastrophic experiments of the proponents of the centrally planned society and economy.

Why was the modern State expected to fail? What should the role of the nation-state be in the self-regulating world order that is increasingly prevalent on both the national and the global level? In his new book, Dr. Bitros examines these and other questions and presents the results of international and local research on the political and economic measures that are likely to resolve the current impasse.

Joining the author in speaking about the book will be:

Konstantine Gatsios
Professor, former Rector, Athens University of Economics and Business

Petros Doukas
former Vice Minister of Economics, President, Capital Partners, S.A.

Leonidas Phoebus Koskos

Athanasios Papandropoulos, Journalist and Honorary International President of the Association of European Journalists, will coordinate the discussion.
